Bio
Algeria’s Sidi Bémol (a.k.a Hocine Boukella, or Cheikh for fans) has always had an acute ability to travel back and forth between tradition and contemporaneity. A master of fusion, he draws on a panoply of music styles – chaabi, gnawa, blues, rock, Berber and Celtic – as well as a handful of languages – Arabic, Kabyle, French and English – in his attempt to depict society with much tenderness and lucidity.
TD Sunfest is celebrating our 20th anniversary! Sunfest is a non-profit community arts group dedicated to promoting cross-cultural awareness and understanding of the arts across a range of disciplines, such as music, dance and the visual arts. Through our World Music & Jazz Concert Series and free-admission annual summer Festival, we are able to celebrate brilliant music and dance ensembles representing diverse cultures from around the world.
